Facebook’s mission is clear: To give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Their mission in Africa is no different – Africa is important to Facebook; the continent’s mobile connectedness and business opportunities are key.
Facebook opened their first office to serve the continent, in Johannesburg in July 2015. Idea Engineers, being Facebook Africa’s PR agency, was a key partner to the Communications strategy and roll out of the launch. The launch received global recognition by some of Facebook’s senior executives and reached more than 1,200 pieces of coverage in key international business outlets, reaching people and businesses from across the globe.
The user numbers in Africa continued to grow, and the company decided to relocate the office to new and bigger premises in July 2017 (monthly active users at launch in 2015 grew from 12million to 20 million at the time of the new office launch in July 2017). Our agency again executed a highly targeted and successful media launch which generated quality coverage from key national, business and marketing outlets.
